Philippians 2:12-13 says we are to work out our salvation. Effort is required. Intentional thought. Deliberate action. Discipline. Sweat.
Step 4 in the AA program says we should make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Maybe all of that is like we have a beautiful garden, stuffed full of flowers. It is there. It is accomplished. However, weeds do emerge and should be rooted out. They grow without notice… unless we take some time every now and then to find them. And once found, a weed should be pulled out.
Got any addictions that are choking out the best in your life?
Beautiful gardens don’t just happen.
Beautiful spiritual lives don’t just happen.
Weeds just happen.
Take a searching and fearless inventory of your life… so that you discover where some work is needed.
(90% of our behavior every day is habitual… maybe even addiction-like. We do it without even thinking about it. How about inventorying that?)
