Gossip

“Gossip is the mother of all vices since it betrays
boredom with one’s own life,
an obsession with another’s,
a pleasure in other people’s misfortunes
and an envy for their blessings.
The best cure for gossip is to develop a healthy interest in your own existence.”

Read each phrase again and see if you fit in there anywhere.

Groan

Shortcomings.  Obviously we all have them… and we try to hide them.  Some do quite well at “the great cover up.”  But whether we get found out or not, we know our weaknesses.

Some of them, we work on.  Some, we do not… because we like them.  We know they’re not the best thing for our life, but we don’t really care.  It’s a vice that we think is nice… as long as noone else knows.  HOWEVER, have you ever noticed that YOU noticed?  You know your own junk and some of it really does bother you.  Your conscience, that little GPS of right and wrong within you, goes a bit ape whenever you embark on certain activities.  A navigational Vietnam ensues.

Could this be what Psalm 32:3 is talking about?  “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long” (Psalm 32:3).

Polo Nomo

Last night, I killed a horse. Piece by piece, I pulled it apart and tossed it in the trash can. It wasn’t hard. It didn’t make much of a mess. You can’t even tell it’s gone.

Of course, who would notice a single piece of thread less than four inches long anyway?

Are we really that shallow?
